The regular meeting
of the Clay-Platte Scottish Rite Club was opened in proper form at 7:10
pm on April 21, 2008 by President Kevin Hampton, with prayer by the
Chaplain, Virden Daugherty, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to
our Flag. There were 19 members, 12 ladies and 5 guests present.
Guest
Speakers: Our Guest speaker was Jo Finney,
Head clinician at the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorders Clinic
in Kansas City. The average patient to the clinic receives 24 sessions
and at $114.00 per session, the scholarships, which are provided by
the Scottish Rite, frequently covers 80 to 100 percent of these expenses.
Jo has been with the clinic for 19 years and considers seeing the progress
of some of the more challenging cases the biggest rewards she can get
from her work. She also took the time to recognize the members who dedicate
many hours as volunteers at the clinic and reminded us of opportunities
that we have to support the work over and above our contribution as
members of the valley.

Sickness:
Beaulah Jane Spencer, wife of our late Lamar Spencer, died on March
30th and Betty McCain, wife of Brother Bill McCain, Secretary/Treasurer
of the Raytown Scottish Rite Club, passed away on April 15th. Ted Harrison
reported that his brother Rick has been having serious health problems
and maybe facing surgery soon. We ask you to keep the families of Betty
and Beaulah and Rick in your prayers.
Minutes: The Minutes of the March 17, 2008 meeting were approved
as presented
Treasurers Report: There was no Treasurers Report
Old Business: No old business to report.
New Business: Brother Ron Hewitt discussed the Supreme
Council’s Master Craftsmen program and said that copies of the
program are available for the $35.00 advertised price at the Valley
Store as a convenience to members. Ron also assigned parts for the 13th
degree and accepted the role as director for the fall reunion. A first
rehearsal (read through) will be announced at the May Club meeting.
Our involvement in the Temple Clean-up scheduled for April 26th was
stressed by Ron and Brother Hampton.
Brother Kevin also recognized the outstanding work by Brother Brent
Winterberg as Director of the work for the Spring Reunion. Our pride
in our fellow member and thanks for his efforts were well noted.
Remarks: Our Blue Plate Special drawing generated $40.50
this month for The Rite Care Clinic. Our winner: Ray Long. Our attendance
of 36 people at the April meeting was outstanding and tied our record
set in July of 2007. A surprise “Grand baby” shower was
held for Ron & Chris Hewitt recognizing their first Grandchild,
Parker Jackson Hewitt, born on March 26th. The Grandparents were actually
speechless. Thank you to all!
The meeting was closed in regular form at 9:10 pm
